Drake’s decorated musical career has roots in multiple cities. The O.V.O. general has shouted out places like Memphis to Houston as much as he’s paid homage to his beloved hometown of Toronto. So it should come as no surprise that the title of an upcoming documentary highlighting the rapper-turned-mogul’s impressive rise to stardom is Toronto to Houston.
Director MarQuis Trill took to Instagram to preview a trailer of the forthcoming documentary over the weekend via a clip that features different moments from the 6-god’s storied musical journey — with a specific focus on his relationship to Houston. The video opens with Jas Prince, the Houston native who played an integral role in the beginning of Drake’s rise.
The documentary, which comes courtesy of Rap-A-Lot, has no solid release date at press time. MarQuis’ caption under the trailer shared a short history of its’ beginnings, as well as a few words of inspiration to up and coming artists. “People always ask ‘How did you get started?’ Well one way was filming @Champagnepapi in Houston, Tx. Every concert, event, club, or appearance that happened in H-Town, I was there,” it reads.
